Happiness ... reach it !!

As I strolled through the park during my evening walk, accompanied by my husband — a fellow enthusiast of leisurely walks — I observed a group of children. Their exuberance was contagious: they jumped, shouted, and played with abandon. Remarkably, they had no modern gadgets in tow; their joy emanated purely from the simple act of being alive.

This scene transported me back in time, prompting introspection. Why is it that as adults, we often struggle to find the same unbridled happiness? Why do we complicate our lives with responsibilities and duties, losing sight of the sheer delight that once came effortlessly?

Growing up introduces us to a world of obligations. We become entangled in the web of materialistic pursuits, associating happiness with possessions and achievements. We postpone joy, believing it awaits us in some distant future. When circumstances align with our desires, we feel elation; when they diverge, sadness prevails. It’s as if our happiness is tethered to the whims of our ego.

For me, happiness resembles a smartphone — requiring regular recharging. Its sources are multifaceted, intricately linked to our behaviour and thought patterns. True happiness resides within—an internal state shaped by our mindset and perspective.

But what truly makes us happy? The question has no definitive answer. Each of us seeks happiness in different corners of life. Some find it in a well-fitted outfit, a sculpted physique, a robust bank balance, or a sumptuous meal—the materialistic checklist stretches endlessly.

Yet, for others, happiness is ephemeral — a fleeting moment of contentment. It emerges from cherished companionship, a close-knit family, or a circle of dear friends. These intangible treasures defy monetary valuation.

The adage “Be happy because you choose to be” resonates profoundly. Our ability to cultivate happiness lies in our choices. When we shift our focus to finding fulfilment in each present moment, happiness surrounds us. Altering our perception transforms our reality. Nurturing gratitude becomes a powerful tool—one that amplifies our joy.

In essence, genuine happiness thrives in mindfulness. By appreciating life’s simple pleasures, we unlock its profound richness. So, let’s embrace the childlike wonder within us, revel in the ordinary, and rediscover the magic of living in the now.

Happiness and unhappiness both reside within our minds. Often, unhappiness emanates from our living in the past (which is a memory trail of gone days) or living in the future (which is uncertain). Living in the present and counting our blessings can significantly brighten our mental landscape. Our emotional state is intricately tied to how our thoughts interact with the world around us. Instead of criticizing, let’s learn to appreciate. Happiness isn’t a fixed destination; it’s a journey shaped by the decisions we make and the habits we cultivate.

Rise and shine ... happiness is always within reach—it’s just a thought away.
